Can a 4 Ton Single Drum Roller Crush a Brick? STS04 Field Test
STORIKE STS04 4-Ton Single Drum Roller Crush Test: What Happens to Bricks and Water Bottles?
Publication Date: July 30, 2026
Product Model: STORIKE STS04 4-Ton Single Drum Vibratory Roller
On July 30, 2026, the STORIKE factory carried out an interesting on-site crushing demonstration using the STS04 4-ton single drum vibratory roller. To provide a more visual demonstration of the machine’s operating weight, drum pressure and stable travelling performance, we placed a solid brick and a sealed plastic water bottle in front of the roller.
Although this was not a standardized compaction performance test, the demonstration offered a clear and engaging way to observe how the STS04 performs when passing over hard and deformable objects.
One Pass Easily Crushed the Solid Brick

For the first demonstration, a complete brick was placed directly in the travelling path of the STS04 front steel drum.
As the 4-ton single drum roller moved slowly forward, the steel drum passed over the brick. After only one pass, the complete brick was crushed and broken into pieces of different sizes.
The roller remained stable throughout the process without significant shaking. Its operating weight, durable front steel drum and stable travelling system effectively transferred pressure onto the surface of the brick.
This demonstration provides a direct visual representation of the machine’s rolling force. In real construction projects, the STS04 is mainly used to compact soil, sand, gravel, crushed stone, road foundations and backfill materials. It helps reduce the spaces between material particles and improves ground density and load-bearing capacity.
Internal Pressure Forced the Bottle Cap Open

For the second demonstration, we placed a sealed plastic bottle containing water in front of the roller.
When the front drum contacted and compressed the bottle, the plastic body quickly deformed. The water and air inside the bottle were compressed, causing the internal pressure to rise rapidly. As the pressure continued to increase, the bottle cap was forced open and the water was released.
This scene clearly demonstrated the pressure generated when the weight of a 4-ton machine is applied over a relatively small contact area. It also showed the consistent and stable pressure delivered as the steel drum travelled over the object.
What Projects Is the STS04 Designed For?
The STS04 is a 4 ton single drum vibratory roller designed for compacting soil, sand, gravel, crushed stone and other granular materials. Compared with double drum rollers that are commonly used for asphalt surface work, a single drum roller is generally more suitable for subgrade, base-layer and earthwork compaction.
Typical applications include:
[1].Road subgrade and base-layer compaction
[2].Sand, gravel and crushed-stone compaction
[3].Backfill compaction around building foundations
[4].Industrial site and warehouse foundation preparation
[5].Parking lot and temporary access-road construction
[6].Municipal and small road projects
[7].Farm road and rural road construction
[8].Equipment rental and contracting projects
The machine combines a front steel drum with a rear drive system, providing efficient compaction together with stable travelling and steering performance. Its compact 4-ton design also allows it to work effectively in a wide range of small and medium-sized construction sites.
More Than Crushing—Consistent Compaction Matters
Crushing a brick and compressing a water bottle creates a visually impressive demonstration, but the real value of a professional road roller is not simply its ability to crush objects.
In actual roadwork and earthwork applications, a roller uses its operating weight and vibration system to continuously transfer force into the construction material. This rearranges loose soil, gravel or crushed-stone particles, reduces internal air spaces and creates a stronger, more uniform and more stable foundation.
The STS04 is designed to improve compaction efficiency and provide a reliable foundation for road paving, building construction and ground-hardening projects.
